Wakefield V Blue Star
This is a remarkable turn-around in Newcastle Blue Star’s fortunes, earning a sixth consecutive victory in the UniBond League Division One North when they defeated Wakefield 3-1 in West Yorkshire on Tuesday night.
Mark Birch gave the Tynesiders a perfect start, volleying home a cross by Chris Emms after just 10 minutes, but the home side battled back for a fine equaliser from Graeme Marchant shortly after.
Record holder (scorer of a second goal in just 47 seconds!) David McTiernan provided the opening for leading goal scorer Lee Novak to score his 23rd goal of the season and, as Blue Star dominated the second period, McTiernan added his name to the score sheet to finish off in fine form.
“This was another outstanding performance by a side in top form, said Director of Football Bob Morton. “We were very inconsistent until a few weeks ago but now we cannot put a foot wrong.
“We are really looking forward to Thursday nights game with promotion hopefuls Bradford Park Avenue at Kingston Park (currently top of the league), and, if we play as we have in recent weeks, we can give them a shock.” |
