Newcastle Blue Star Vs Lancaster City
Blue Star did not start well, and after two goalkeeping howlers found themselves 2-0 down after the first eighteen minutes. The first goal saw Tom Entwistles speculative shot from twenty five yards reach the back of the net after it somehow got through Dan Lowson's hands, the second saw Lowson race out of his penalty area only for the ball to bounce over his head and into the empty net courtesy of Dave Forster.
However, after the break the Blue Star men hit back with two goals in five minutes, thus earning themselves a point. Wayne Gordon's sixty fourth minute free kick was powerfully headed home by Star defender Chris Carr at the back post. Phil Bell then leveled the scoring with a side footed shot that crept over the line. Only a stunning full-length save from Mark Thornley prevented Blue Star from been victorious with a late winner after Lee Novak struck a volley that was destined for the top corner.
Manager Tommy Cassidy was pleased with character his side showed; " We gifted them two goals in the opening eighteen minutes.
"It might have been the end for some teams, but we rallied during the second half and, after Chris Carr reduced the deficit with a brave header, Phil Bell struck the equaliser.
"I thought the lads showed a lot of character which was a positive to take from the game.
"We have a good player base, but I know we still need to strengthen and it might be Christmas before I know where we stand.
"So long as you can identify problems you are half way there. My job is to resolve them."
