Newcastle Blue Star Vs Woodley Sports
Star put in a late surge to score 2 late goals and see off a tough Woodley Sports side, and keep alive our play-off hopes.
Blue Star started brightly and after pressing forward were rewarded after 25 minutes when Lee Novak chased a long pass and pulled back an exquisite ball for Sheeran to slot home from 10 yards. However, Woodley equalised 5 minutes later when Phil Charndle picked out Chris Coward who headed back for Kyle Buckley to smash in from the edge of the area. 1-1 was the half time score line.
Most of the second half passed eventless but with 9 minutes remaining Blue Star made 2 substitutions and both made a massive impact in the later part of the game. Firstly David McTiernan had a shot saved, then Scott Bell set up Novak who side footed wide of the far post. McTiernan followed by putting in a low cross for Bell but somehow Woodley escaped.
Newcastle Blue Star went ahead on 86 minutes when McTiernan's shot bounced off the post leaving captain Chris Carr to smash a low shot into the back of the net. Woodley started a come back attack with Stuart Whittaker lifting the ball over the NBS defence but his effort went wide of the post. Then, Blue Star scored a wonderful third goal to put the game well and truly out of Woodley's reach. Emms placed a good ball out right for Bell to run onto and cross along the 6 yard line to Novak who placed past a helpless keeper, to score his 16th goal of the season and to get the double over Woodley.
