Blue Star Vs Skelmersdale United
Blue Star lost their unbeaten home league record today to Skelmersdale who have now gained the double over us.
However, Blue Star will be thinking what a difference it would have made to the game if they had scored their two chances in the opening sixteen minutes.
Straight from the kick off Blue Star came close to scoring when Wayne Gordon’s low cross from the right found Ben Pringle at the far post, but Ryan McMahon superbly turned the shot around the post.
A surging run from Leadbitter put Star on the back foot slightly but Skelmersdale failed to capitalise as the ball blazed over the bar. Just moments later Skelmersdale then won a free kick through a foul by Leon Scott, but Blue Star broke well with Scott Bell combing with Neal Hooks and Wayne Gordon before whipping in a cross which unfortunately evaded all his team mates.
A deep cross from Ben Pringle came into the box for Gordon to head in but alas, the ball carried on straight to McMahon. Then, on sixteen minutes Blue Star should have taken the lead when Lee Novak’s low cross from the right saw Bell miss the ball altogether and Pringle hit high over the bar from just 10 yards out.
The action was then down at the other end as Leadbitter had another good chance but the ball sailed narrowly over the bar.
Pringle had another shot which this time was blocked then, Bell had a good effort on goal after beating two defenders but MaMahon saved his shot.
Blue Star didn’t come out well after half-time, then on fifty eight minutes Skelmersdale took the lead after Blue Star ‘gifted’ them the goal. Phil Holland crossed into the box and Smith failed to hold onto it leaving Steven Akrigg the easy task of putting the ball into an unguarded net.
