Blue Star V Mossley
Paul Baker celebrated his first game as the permanent Blue Star manager to their biggest win of the season in the UniBond League Division One North after a five goal demolition of Mosley. Also increasing the score tally to nine goals in two games!
Mark Sheeran produced another man-of-the-match performance and he struck after just six minutes from close range. A defensive lapse, though, enabled Mossley to level on the half hour as Gareth Hamlet was left with a simple tap-in past goal keeper Dan Lowson, after Dan slipped whilst clearing the ball.
Blue Star regained the lead when Ben Webster produced a brilliant run down the left which opened up the opportunity for Sheeran to score his second goal of the afternoon, blasting the ball into the net from just a few yards.
Webster then added his name to the score-sheet two minutes later, beating two defenders before slotting home from a narrow angle and at this stage there was no stopping Baker’s rampant side.
Mossley were left chasing the game and it came as no surprise when Sheeran completed his hat-trick (his second in as many weeks) following a cross by Leon Scott and just before the end Blue Star completed the goal rout when David McTiernan converted by firing into the top corner, after taking a pass from Lee Novak, who returned after a six week absence through injury.
