Lancaster City V Blue Star

Blue Star boss Paul Baker took temporary charge a few weeks ago, but, since being installed as permanent manager, has steered the team to three consecutive victories.
The points are important but Baker is equally delighted with the quality of his team’s performances and the unquestionable commitment of his players.
From the kick-off, Blue Star took the game to their opponents however there was nearly an upset when Lancaster came close to taking the lead in the first two minutes. A cross from Neil Uberschar was headed wide by Liam Jeffery. But, Blue Star powered back and clinched an early reward as Mark Sheeran struck from close-range following some skillful work by Chris Emms.
Inspired by the success, the Tynesiders maintained the offensive and extended their lead going two goals up after Leon Scott eluded two challenges before sending over a cross that was powerfully headed in by Blue Star’s leading scorer Lee Novak.
Against the run of play Lancaster were thrown a lifeline on thirty nine minutes when Dean Gordon unluckily slipped and allowed David Rawston to fire past goalkeeper Dan Lowson from an acute angle.
The home side came out fighting for the second period but Blue Star weathered a 15-minute storm and gradually regained the ascendancy.
Gordon and Sheeran both hit the woodwork and several other scoring opportunities were passed up but Baker was still delighted with the outcome.
He said: “I’m over the moon to be back in the game with Blue Star and I am absolutely delighted with the commitment the players have shown during five matches.
“We are playing brilliant stuff, entertaining the fans with flair and style which augers well for the future.
“Nobody at Kingston Park has given up the ghost and I am proud that the side is so committed.”
