Newcastle Blue Star Vs Harrogate Railway Athletic

Newcastle hosted the Yorkshire outfit on Wednesday night & got off to a dream start by being 3-0 up within the first 12 minutes! It looked like Harrogate may have been thinking of their big FA Cup game on Saturday rather than the job in hand at Kingston Park.

The opening goal came on 8 minutes when a long ball to Lee Novak saw visiting keeper Jonathan McLaughlin scramble the ball & Lee Novak was quick to pounce on the loose ball & slot it into the empty net for his 6th league goal of the season.

Two minutes later Blue Star doubled their lead through Ben Pringle who drilled the ball in low from 18 yards out. Then another 2 minutes later David McTiernan smashed in the Stars 3rd goal from close range to put us 3-0 up.

The rest of the first half was goal-free with Blue Star ensuring keeper McLaughlin worked hard. Harrogate managed one shot at goal on the half hour mark by James McDaid, which went inches over the bar.

Harrogate put up a better performance in the second half, but they were still unable to break down a resolute home defence, well marshaled by Chris Carr. The quality of football wasn't great by either team, however Newcastle still remain unbeaten at home & move up to 3rd place in the table.
