FC United of Manchester V Newcastle Blue Star
Blue Star played tremendously against a strong FC side and were very unfortunate to leave with nothing.
FC United were frightened by a spirited second-half Newcastle come back before scoring in the 92nd minute to grab 3 points.
United took an early lead as top goal-scorer Rory Patterson fired in from a tight angle.
Predatory Patterson doubled the lead in the 21st minute as a clever pass from Jerome Wright found him in a little space at the edge of the area.
The 2-0 deficit was hard on Newcastle as they played far better football throughout, always managing to look dangerous on the attack. On one occasion, FC United keeper Aaron Grundy was beaten alas Neal Hooks could only manage to hit the post.
A telling cross from captain Mark Birch was nodded home by Mark Sheeran to halve the arrears with 15 minutes left and then Blue Star equalised courtesy of Chris Emms striking a fabulous ball from 25 yards out.
Having squandered a barely deserved lead the Rebels continued to fight and saw the seesaw battle turn back in their favour as substitute Adam Carden tapped in from close range on the 92nd minute mark.
Another disappointing result which does not justify the performance of the two teams on the day.
