Blue Star V Curzon Ashton
This game started with a minutes silence in memory of Fred Garner, an FC United supporter who tragically died on Saturday night in Whitley Bay following the game between the two sides.
Both Blue Star and Curzon both started the game in lively spirits, creating lots of goal-scoring opportunities…it looked set to be a great game. Curzon needed to win to keep their dreams of winning the league alive and Blue Star wanted to keep their fantastic end of season run going.
The score line remained 0-0 up until the forty fourth minute when Blue Star won a free kick following a Curzon hand ball. Dean Gordon’s strong left foot broke the grid-lock straight from the free kick which was on the edge of the area; the ball was struck directly into the bottom right hand corner.
After half time Blue Star came out the stronger team, and managed to double their lead on fifty two minutes when Lee Novak ran around the defence and slotted the ball home from a tight angle.
On seventy three minutes Novak didn’t take the opportunity to put the game out of reach for Curzon as he missed a golden goal-scoring chance. Then Curzon capitalised on seventy five minutes as they managed to bundle the ball into the back of the net, Star defender Leon Scott getting in injured in the process.
Blue Star closed down the game well and were deserving winners on the night for their last home game of the 2007/08 campaign. |
