Curzon Ashton V Blue Star
The windy conditions were less than perfect for playing football on Saturday away at Curzon, and the game got off to the worst posible start for Blue Star when in the 4th minute leading goal scorer Lee Novak had to be stretchered off following a clash with Curzon keeper Carnell.
Wayne Gordon was the first player for either team to get a shot in on goal, but Carnell easily saved. Then the action was at the Blue Star goal but Chris Carr blocked the shot, leaving Mark Birch to clear up.
Blue Star should have done better on the quarter hour mark as the ball bobbled dangerously in the Curzon box, but Mark Sheerans shot was cleared off the line.
Blue Star had another couple of chances to score but just couldn't captalise. This trend followed into the second half as Wayne Gordon wasted the best chance of the game by driving the ball well over the cross bar.
The second half started ok as Bell had another shot on goal but once again Carnell saved. Then Curzon missed a fabulous opportunity as Nicky Allen managed to put the ball over an empty net.
During the second half Blue Star were playing right into the wind which finally got the better of them on 73 minutes when Curzon took the lead following a free kick.
Moments later Summersgill managed to pull off a great save to deny Curzon from doubling the lead. But, with 12 minutes reamining Norton scored his second of the game. |
