Colwyn Bay Vs Blue Star
In the next round of the FA Trophy Blue Star had to take the long trip to Colwyn Bay, North Wales. The journey didn't seem to affect Blue Star as they started very brightly and dominated the first 30 minutes. But, for all their possession Blue Star just couldn't get the break-through they needed, and with Colwyn Bay looking increasingly dangerous on the break, Star really needed to convert their possession into goals.
Star began to test Bay's back four and forced keeper Jamie Speare to pull off a magnificent save to deny David McTiernan. It was quite ironic that it was during this superb spell from Star that Colwyn Bay struck. On the 35 minute mark a Martin Crowder corner was only cleared as far as Kyle Armstrong who picked out his defensive partner Iain Swan to drive in a low shot into the back of the net.
Then 8 minutes later Colwyn Bay earned themselves another corner. This time it was flicked to the far post where it was met by Lewis Callaghan who looped his header over the keeper to put the Bay 2-0 up going into half time.
The second half belonged ton Blue Star as they pinned Clowyn Bay into their own half for long periods of the game but, Colwyn Bay defended strongly. As the game entered the last 5 minutes Blue Star gambled by pushing extra players into the box to increase the pressure on the Bay. However, this nearly backfired when Colwyn player Neil Black chased down a ball, bending it around the Star keeper but luckily Blue Star's retreating defence cleared it off the goal line.
3 minutes of extra time were allocated & during this last minute Blue Stars Leon Scott picked up the ball on the edge of the box & let rip a thunderous, unstoppable shot into the back of the net 2-1.
Then, with only seconds remaining Star hit the back of the net again courtesy of Chris Emms, but alas the referee disallowed the goal for infringement in the area much to the dismay of the Blue Star fans.
