About Us

Formed as Newcastle Blue Star in 1930, the club progressed through the minor leagues, maintaining their record of winning the championship of each new league they joined at the first attempt.

By 1973, the club had advanced to the Wear side league, and over the 12 years in the league the club were the most consistent team, winning the championship on no fewer than 5 occasions, this including the hat-trick in the 1982-83 season.

Blue Star also won the League cup 5 times, the Monkwearmouth Charity cup 3 times, and the Sunderland Ship-owners cup twice.

During their spell in the Wear side league success was not only confined to the league, the Northumberland cup found a place in the Wheatsheaf ground trophy cabinet on 3 occasions.

However, the greatest achievement came in the F.A vase when the club defeated Barton Rovers 2-1 in the final at Wembley to win their one and only National trophy. It was a great day and a landmark in the clubs history.

Newcastle Blue Star’s first season in the Northern league in 1985-86 was a remarkable one. The Second Division Championship was attained with a record 109 points & with playing figures that may never be beaten. They also added the Northumberland Senior cup and the Northern league cup to their silverware that season.

Success continued in 1993 with a tremendous 2-1 victory in the Northumberland Senior cup, against what was a very talented Newcastle United reserve side, at ST James Park.

A change of name to RTM Newcastle took place at the beginning of the 1994-95 season, and under the guidance of new chairman, Tom Brown, the club moved forward confidently, reminding everyone that Blue Star could once again become a formidable force within non-league football.

Three years later we reverted back to Newcastle Blue Star.

Success returned in season 2005-06 when Blue Star won the league double. But, they were left in a predicament; their pitch did not fit with the criteria of the higher UniBond league and above.

Then, at the start of the 2007-08 season in stepped newly appointed chairman Dave Thompson (also chairman of Newcastle Falcons) who acquired the lease at Blue Star. The old Wheatsheaf ground, hence-forward to be known as Druid Park is to be developed into a community-based sports ground with a new state of the art fourth generation pitch, which Blue Star will also have access to for training purposes. However, Dave also provided Blue Star with a new home at his Kingston Park stadium, which will be one of the best appointed non-league football grounds in the country.
